Embracing Digital Transformation in Education

The COVID-19 pandemic served as a wake-up call for the formal education sectors across Europe, highlighting an urgent need for digital education and the role it plays in the continent’s digital transformation. Prior to the crisis, a significant portion of the population had not engaged with distance and online learning, leaving a gap in digital competencies and preparedness. The European Commission’s 2020 public consultation revealed a critical turning point; nearly 95% of respondents agreed that the pandemic irreversibly changed the landscape of technology use in education and training. This underscored the demand for online learning resources to be more relevant, interactive, and user-friendly.

Responding to this pressing need, the „Digital Tools for Better Schools“ project was conceived, aligning with the strategic priorities of the EU Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027. Our goal is to foster digital transformation and readiness among schools and educators in partner countries, enhancing digital and media literacy to navigate the complexities of the digital age, including the challenge of dis/misinformation.

Objectives: We aim to develop high-quality, inclusive, and free digital educational content through e-learning, incorporating digital games and other tools to enrich teachers‘ competencies. Furthermore, we seek to explore the most effective ways to integrate digital tools into subject-specific teaching, equipping educators with the knowledge to build students‘ resilience against disinformation and propaganda.

Expected Results: Our project is set to deliver a research study on gamification and game-based learning, an e-learning program and an Open Education Platform to centralize project outputs and activities. These initiatives aim not only to enhance the digital competence of teachers but also to create a more inclusive and effective digital education environment.

Partnership: The collaboration between Impact Games from Slovakia, Enabler Ltd. from Hungary, S.C. PREDICT CSD CONSULTING S.R.L. from Romania, and VitaComm Educational Services LTD from Cyprus represents a cross-sectoral partnership that leverages the strengths of civil society organizations and private sector partners. This innovative alliance is committed to driving the project forward, ensuring that the results and knowledge gained will be integrated into existing programs and beyond.
